Goliath is not your challenge

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." 1 Samuel 17:45

Remove your own idolatry!

Every day we look for a reason to elevate our own self-importance to better serve our interests. Sure, we are important to family, friends, co-workers, or generally speaking; however, we are not heroes of the Bible. We are pieces in God's puzzle that fulfill His will. He is not there for us to bring us what we think is needed. Our service is to God, not the other way around. It is our human nature to put ourselves at the top of the list of importance! We feel that we can pump ourselves up for the day and crush our enemy, whatever that is. As Pastor Matt Chandler said, "We are not David!" This is beyond true. We read the heroes of the Bible and apply it to our unrealistic fantasy of slaying dragons.

Our Goliath

Today, a lot of our disconnect from scripture is that we become the hero. Our culture has become prosperity motivated. What can God do for me today? How can God make me a millionaire? I'll just pray and live abundantly because Jesus said so! Well, scripture does not say that all! This is a load of fakeness. Goliath is not our daily tasks to slay. We do not wake up and take down a giant and place ourselves on a pedestal, as if we are heroic and living by God's will. God does not care that we have the fanciest car, newest clothes, or being financially stable. False teachings will tell you different, but you must stray from that. It is great if you are blessed and have these things, but we should praise and glorify God for allowing us to exist. Africa is a prime example of this. If we go to Africa right now on a missionary trip, do you think they have what we have? Do they not believe in God the same way and pray to Him?

We are not the hero.

Too often, we find ourselves being the majestic hero in the world of evil. Unfortunately, our evil is slaying the mundane and meaningless things within our lives that really have nothing to do with destroying real evil. God is not the reason for taking on the long line at Starbucks. God also did not tell you to eat a salad instead of grabbing a fast-food burger. We are not slaying a great evil by doing these things. The Bible is not about US. It does not make us heroic! We have to take the Bible for the historic events from the beginning of time and the serpent all the way to revelation. Jesus will return and be the slayer of evil. Jesus will give us our final instruction and take us to be with Him, fi we have accepted His sacrifice for the world. Jesus was the true hero and we are those He saved!

Jesus, Son of God, Thank You for Your heroic sacrifice to save this wretched wicked world full of sinners. I know that many will not be sheep and will not enter the kingdom of God, but we will pray for them regardless. We are sinners and will never be without sin. Thank You for the opportunity to follow and live by Your way. In Your Holy name, we pray. Amen!
