Better NOT call Saul

15 Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul came, saying, 16 “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel, that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.” 1 Samuel 9:15-16

Saul the anointed

Samuel was told by God that His king was coming. A king that would lead the LORD's people out of the land of persecution. This king would stand against the Philistines and show that the LORD, God was mightier than their destructive false living. Saul reigned and stood against the evil, coming to destroy God's people. Saul eventually done what was wrong in the eyes of the LORD. Saul told Samuel, "I forced myself to offer the burnt offering."(1 Samuel 13:12). Samuel immediately condemned the king for his wrongdoing. Saul continued to disregard the LORD, God of Israel and went against the word of Samuel. God rejected the King Saul and commanded Samuel to anoint David.

This was not good for Saul. The Spirit had left Saul and come over David, the newly anointed. Saul was troubled and sent for David to be in his service, so he could keep an eye on him. Saul's horrible deeds began. Many times, Saul, would put David in situations to get him killed, but God was with young David. He always continued to stand tall against all the enemies of God, no matter their stature. God was with David. Many times, David had the chance to take revenge on Saul for all the wrongs he committed against him. He never gave in to it. The most notable time was when David was sent to face a giant named Goliath. A philistine warrior, a champion, their most hardened soldier. David stood toe to toe with this Giant, over 6 cubits (roughly 9 feet or more). Goliath mocked young David, but David had one thing that the giant did not! "I come to you in the name of the LORD of Armies" (1 Samuel 17:45). David defeated the giant. He showed that God would deliver him from the enemy.

There are many other instances when David ended up in harms way for Saul; however, Saul would continue and his life came to an end on the battlefield with his son Johnathan, whom David was befriended by. To sum up this post, don't let a Saul be negative in your life. Saul was a hardened ruler, but could not let go of power. He only trusted himself and neglected God's divine word. Do not be like Saul. Place your trust in God and give him the glory.

Lord, I give you thanks. Thanks for such blessings that we need no other. We only need You Lord, we only trust You! God, Almighty, bless our souls to be cleansed and do what is right in Your eyes. In Your Holy name, we pray! Amen!
